Gore to induce environmental spasms

In what is certain to cause fringe environmentalists to undergo some serious soul searching, Al Gore has apparently invested in an ethanol company. That's right. Their environmental hero, through his company that invests in sustainable businesses, has purchased a stake in an industry that has become a fashionable target of environmentalists.

What will these bloggers say now? (Hat tip to Biopact for the story).

The ethanol industry (of which I am a part in the interest of full disclosure) should take advantage of this opportunity just as the environmental community did with Gore's recent Nobel Prize. If the leader of the modern environmental movement is investing in your product, how can it be as bad as others are saying?

Nathan,

I am not anti-ethanol, but I am anti corn-derived ethanol due to it's effects on our food supply and because it is one of the least efficient sources of ethanol.

The company you mentioned, Abengoa, is working on cellulosic ethanol production. I'm all for this move and I hope that they crack the code soon so the government will stop throwing money at the corn based solution.
